Importance of Dussehra & mythological story:
The festival of Dussehra is the festival of victory of falsehood over truth. Dussehra, which is also called Vijay Dashami, falls on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. Vijayadashami i.e. Dussehra is celebrated the next day after the end of Navratri. According to religious beliefs, Lord Rama worshiped Goddess Durga for 9 days before killing Ravana and killed Ravana on the 10th day.
Another mythological story regarding this says that there was a demon named Mahishasura who had received a boon by worshiping Lord Brahma that no one on earth would be able to defeat him i.e. would not be able to kill him. He had created an uproar from Mahishasura with his sin. Then Brahma Vishnu Mahesh created Goddess Durga with his power. The fight between Maa Durga and Mahishasura lasted for 9 days and on the 10th day, Maa Durga killed the demon.
